Peggy Lampotang - Behind the Scenes: The Love Stories that Weave through The Coral Heart
Peggy Lampotang is a writer, photographer and designer born in Mauritius, and based in Toronto, Canada. Her first novel, The Coral Heart (2014, Atelier d'écriture) explores 20th-century Chinese migration to Mauritius, and addresses themes such as familial duty, and cultural struggles to make the island home. The French translation of the novel is titled Coeur de Corail (2019, Pamplemousses Editions). Her other works include a collection of poetry and photographs, titled Island Lovers (2016, Design 51 Inc.) Her non-fiction writing has been published in Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, and in college textbooks by Nelson Education, one of Canada's leading educational publishers. Her short story, The Lantern was published in Facing Challenges, a collection of short stories (2012 Immedia). Peggy Lampotang studied Creative Writing at University of Toronto, and Fashion Design at Ryerson. She had her own design company, and painted one of a kind silk clothing and accessories. Her hand painted scarves were part of the promotional campaign of Pierre Cardin’s perfume Paradoxe in Canada. She has exhibited her photography work in many venues in Toronto as well as at Musée de la Photographie in Mauritius.
